In addition to a week of films and VIP parties and celebrations, the
White Sands International Film Festival presents a slate of industry workshops designed to hone and tune the necessary skills to break into the film industry. The Festival presents the following workshops during the 4 event event: on Friday, August 26, from 9:00 am - 12:00 pm at the
Black Box Theater, Mark Medoff will present
"The Exploding One-Liner" A Screenwriting Workshop with Mark Medoff. Also on Friday, from 12:30 pm - 3:30 pm at the
Rio Grande Theater, David Derks, Ginger Perkins and
Bill Immerman will present a workshop on the production side of a film entitled
"How to Make a Movie" from 12:30 - 3:30 p.m. at the
Rio Grande Theatre.
On Saturday, August 27, from 9 am - 12:30 pm at the
Rio Grande Theater, a casting audition workshop with
Sam Muir will be presented. A fourth workshop has been added for Saturday.
"Filmmaking in Southern New Mexico" with
Bill McCamey, Rod McCall and
Mark Medoff, will take place at the
Black Box Theater from 1 - 4 pm. Mark Medoff, writer/director of the feature film
Refuge, the festival's opening night film, will teach a screenwriting workshop. Medoff is a Tony® Award winning playwright, screenwriter, director and actor whose works include
Children of a Lesser God, Clara's Heart, City of Joy, Homage and
Good Guys Wear Black.

The White Sands International Film Festival, in its 6th year, brings together films from around the world to showcase the skills and talents of amateur and professional filmmakers alike. The festival is a 4-day event running August 25-28, 2011 with film screenings, workshops and VIP parties in the friendly city of Las Cruces, NM.
