A complete rebranding is currently underway for Pacific Sun. The regional and domestic carrier's parent company,
Fiji Airways, has unveiled that the subsidiary airline was renamed
'Fiji Link' on June 6. In addition to a new name, there will also be an acquisition of a new aircraft and a complete redesign of the airline's internal operations and network.
"The new brand for our domestic and regional carrier will align with the new Fiji Airways identity and highlight its important role as a link to Fiji and the Pacific," said Stefan Pichler, Fiji Airways managing director and CEO. "Hence the new identity will have a distinct yet part-of-the-family look and feel to Fiji Airways."
In anticipation of the redesign and restructure, the airline received a brand new ATR 72-600 aircraft on Friday, June 6. This date commenced the official rebranding of Pacific Sun to 'Fiji Link'. Additionally, connectivity with Fiji Airways' international schedules will also be enhanced to offer customers seamless connections to the North and other island destinations.
Pichler described the new naming process, "Pacific Sun provides an invaluable link for Fiji's major domestic ports to Nadi and Suva, and operates as an important Pacific connection in the Fiji Airways' network. Since Fiji started up the domestic and regional subsidiary, Pacific Sun hasn't had a brand alignment with its commercial position. Now with an investment in brand new aircraft for the airline to complement the operational restructure it has been going through, the time is right for us to create an identity for Pacific Sun - an identity that Fiji can be proud of, and one which will resonate with our customers."
The ATR 72-600 aircraft increased Fiji Link's current fleet of two ATR 42-500 and three DHC Havilland Twin Otter aircraft. The brand new twin-engine turbo prop aircraft has seating capacity for 68 passengers, and will be used to operate Fiji's larger domestic ports of Nadi, Suva and Labasa. It will also operate regionally to Samoa, Tonga and Funafuti, on behalf of parent company Fiji Airways.
In the coming months, Fiji Link's two existing ATR 42-500s will also exit the fleet as another new ATR 72-600 and ATR 42-600 series enter. An announcement on the rebranding of the Twin Otter fleet will be made at later stage as well. Fiji Link will increase its fleet size by 25% with the purchase and/or leasing of four new aircrafts by 2017. Further enhancements for domestic and regional travel, including new uniforms and Business Class products are also in the works for the developing carrier.
"We are committed to grow in the South Pacific and the domestic markets as part of our Five Year Master plan. Our investment in new ATR fleet for Fiji Link means better, more comfortable travel for our customers domestically and in the region," said Pichler. "We are strengthening our Pacific network and matching the right aircraft to the routes and demand. Adding new ATR aircraft for regional operations means freeing up some capacity of our B737 aircraft, which again allow us to grow our services into our Australia, New Zealand and also Hawaii. There are exciting times ahead of us all and every Fiji Airways and Fiji Link team member will walk the extra mile to make a smooth and successful transition possible." |
