Following Multi-Million Dollar Renovation, Largest Dude Ranch East of the Mississippi Offers Exciting Alternative for Meetings, Retreats and Other Group Events Just Outside of Orlando
Located in Central Florida, just an hour south of Orlando and away from the hustle of the surrounding cities, sits a unique destination for meetings and groups offering a serene atmosphere, an array of activities and a taste of Florida's cowboy history.
Westgate River Ranch, the largest dude ranch east of the Mississippi, was once the meeting location for cowboys as they brought their herds together to transport them across the state. Today, with a variety of newly renovated overnight accommodations, more than 8,000 sq. ft. of flexible meeting space, a new team building challenge course and cowboy-themed activities, the ranch continues its tradition as an exciting meetings destination for everything from family reunions and special events to corporate meetings and retreats.
Accommodations and Space
The resort, which recently re-launched following a multi-million renovation, offers completely revamped accommodations, ranging from an inn to deluxe two-bedroom cabins to ranch-themed guestrooms to 10 glamping sites - the new trend, which blends glamour and camping - with outdoor tents suited with deluxe interior amenities. Based on growing demand, the ranch is adding 10 additional sites summer 2014.
With more than 8,000 sq. ft. of flexible meeting and banquet space, the ranch can accommodate groups from 12 to 250. Ten meeting rooms, along with 4,500 sq. ft. of outdoor space, provide groups with a variety of options for their functions.
For outdoor events, the property's 1,700 acres provide even more space. As the annual home to Central Florida's Tough Mudder endurance challenge, the resort welcomes more than 15,000 visitors.
Team Building Activities
Florida cowboys relied on teamwork to move their cattle across the state and in that cowboy spirit, Westgate River Ranch offers team building facilities and activities for groups developed from cowboy traditions.
As part of the resort's recent renovation, a new team building course provides a great opportunity for groups of all sizes to determine the most effective ways to solve physically and mentally challenging problems. This low-elements outdoor adventure will provoke teams to new heights as it tests strength, endurance and balance. Seven course challenges are located in a tree-covered area and focus on communication, leadership and problem-solving skills. Challenges include "Dead Man's Fall," the classic trust fall where group members catch a teammate from a raised platform, and "The Tombstone," an activity in which all teammates must pass over a wall.
Groups can also choose from more than a dozen team-building activities such as Saddle Up and Ride!, where one person is blindfolded, while another talks through the steps of assembling a saddle. Once assembled, the saddle is fastened to a horse and one team member must ride blindfolded through an obstacle course guided by the other. Another activity,
Team Calf Penning, builds communication and problem solving skills by requiring teams to creatively pen a calf using a three-sided pen.
Activities and Amenities
Westgate River Ranch offers attendees a range of onsite activities including horseback riding, airboat rides, swamp buggy tours, trap and skeet shooting, a petting farm and the new Adventure Park area featuring cowboy-themed mini-golf, a rock climbing wall, zip line, mechanical bull and bungee jumping.
Each week, the resort is home to the longest-running Saturday night championship rodeo in the United States, featuring trick riding, bull riding, calf roping and barrel racing. Combined with the street party at the outdoor dance hall that follows, it is a full evening of entertainment that an entire group, large or small, can enjoy together.
Ideal for executive meetings, Westgate River Ranch also features a 5,000-ft. paved and lighted runway, as well as a full-service marina.
"Our close proximity to Orlando makes us the ideal option for a customized meeting or retreat," said David Siegel, CEO. "Groups can provide their attendees a meeting experience unlike anything else in Central Florida."
The ranch was recently awarded the industry's Gene Kilgore 2013"World's Best Ranches" award
for its services and amenities. The combination of locale, facilities and amenities, is sure to make for a successful and memorable event.
