41st Annual Legislative Conference (ALC) sponsored by the
Congressional Black Caucus Foundation (CBCF):
The workshop, entitled "The ABCs of African American Hotel Ownership and Cashing in on the Fifty Billion Dollar Multicultural Tourism Market," was organized by the
National Association of Black Hotel Owners, Operators and Developers (NABHOOD) and its president/CEO
Andy Ingraham.
Honorary Host Congresswoman Wilson was joined by panelists including Eric Jacobs, senior vice president, Development, Marriott International; Craig Mance, senior vice president of Development, Hilton
Worldwide; Michael Roberts, chairman
Roberts Hotels, LLC; Norman Jenkins, president,
Capstone Development LLC;
Hemant Patel, chairman,
Asian American Hotel Owners Association (AAHOA);
Rajiv Trivedi, executive vice president & chief development officer,
La Quinta Inns & Suites; Deanne L. Ayers-Howard, Esq., Howard Hospitality of Cascades, LLC;
Solomon Herbert, publisher/editor-in-chief,
Black Meetings & Tourism magazine; and Andy Ingraham, president/CEO/Founder NABHOOD.
Ingraham served as moderator, while attendees heard from current African-American hotel owners and hotel companies who discussed, among other things, franchising and development, as well as how African-Americans are changing the face of hotel ownership in America. Herbert offered insight into the many opportunities the lodging industry offers to small business owners with a product or service to sell, and touched on the steps required to begin the process of becoming a lodging industry vendor.
