Green Globe congratulates
Memories Resorts & Spa on the certification of
Memories Grand Bahama Beach & Casino Resort and
Memories Splash Punta Cana for their sustainable operations and management.
Green Globe is the only international program to recognize companies within the travel industry demonstrating long-term commitment to incorporating sustainable practices throughout their day-to-day operations.
Established in 1993, Green Globe adheres to ISO 19011 guidelines and employs independent auditors to ensure their rigorous criteria, comprising over 330 compliance indicators, is met. These guidelines are revised annually and, in order for hotels and resorts to maintain their Green Globe Certification, each property must undergo an inspection year on year and demonstrate improvement in their sustainability performance.
Green Globe CEO, Guido Bauer, commends the hotels for their active and ongoing contribution to sustainable tourism. "We applaud Memories Grand Bahama and Memories Splash Punta Cana for their commitment to making positive contributions to the local community and the planet," said Bauer.
Both Memories Grand Bahama and Memories Splash Punta Cana surpassed the criteria to become Green Globe certified members. Conservation programs that the hotels have in place include extensive recycling, utilizing solar energy, a dedicated on-site compost area, and donating surplus food waste to local farmers. In addition, lighting has been updated to LEDs, and the use of digital communications has reduced both energy and paper usage. Both hotels will continue to evolve and implement additional conservation programs at each property.
Green Globe and its member hotels hold even greater promise of better environmental performance as the world embraces the need for sustainability and response to global climate change as essential core values.
