For years, a premier destination in Jamaica, the Tryall Club Resort in Montego Bay, has taken a proactive role in preserving and protecting nature in all its forms. This property impresses with outstanding work, promoting awareness and educating locals on environmental practices on all levels. One of the top performing members of Green Globe, the Tryall Club recently earned re-certification.

"This year, re-certification commemorates our four year partnership with Green Globe, and we could not be more thrilled about that," said Gerald Giarla, managing director at the Tryall Club. "We take great pride in contributing to tourism in Jamaica, and earning this accreditation again proves our continued efforts to make green choices for global environmental preservation."

Partnering with the Jamaica Environmental Trust, the Tryall Club hosted an "Eco Summer Camp" to teach kids about ecological issues and interact with nature in a learning environment. Children from neighboring primary and high schools participated in seminars, designed to raise awareness of environmental issues. With the assistance of the resident environmental legend of Tryall, Dr. Noel Brown, the Eco Summer Camp was a great start for a promising future in environmental advocacy.

The Tryall Fund donated over $40,000 in scholarships this year, given to students from high school to university level to continue their education. This is in addition to their continued work in their capstone program "Success by Six" in the local Sandy Bay community and the annual Dental Mission that provides free dental care for the local residents.

Tryall Club and Villas has implemented an Environmental Management System that focuses on the key factors of sustainability in business practices: Environment, Health & Safety, Socio-Cultural Responsibility, Quality Service and Products. The property boasts an independent water facility and treatment plant, which makes the grounds and golf course the finest in the Caribbean. The entire Tryall Team benefits from some of the best job training, health and safety programs available in Jamaica. A special Green Team, formed of a group of employees from different departments and various responsibilities, monitors the progress of green measures, shaping and realizing the environmental goals of the resort.

This year, the Tryall Club saw the launch of a long-term goal - to establish a forest reserve on the 2,200 acre property. The proposal will be presented to the Jamaican Cabinet in 2014, and once the law is passed, this will demonstrate a major milestone in the commitment to sustainability of the resort.
