USVI Hotel & Tourism Association Announces 2014 National Culinary Team, To Compete At Taste Of Caribbean 2014
The USVI Hotel and Tourism Association selected its 2014 USVI National Culinary Team and announced its upcoming participation at Taste of the Caribbean, the Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association's (CHTA) annual culinary competition, taking place at the Hyatt Regency, Miami, June 28 - July 2, 2014 in Miami, Fl. Some of the 2014 USVI National Culinary Team Selected through individual competitions, the USVI National Culinary Team is comprised of: Marco Sanchez, team captain and executive sous chef at Frenchman's Reef Marriott Resort; Taj Siwatu, Chef at Buddha Sushi Bar; Ryan Cross, executive pastry chef at The Ritz-Carlton, St. Thomas; Brandon DeCloux, Bartender at Fat Turtle; Ron Duprat, executive chef at Sugar Bay Resort and Spa; and George Sittig, executive chef at Greenside Grille Carambola Golf Course. While competing at Taste of the Caribbean, the 2014 USVI National Culinary Team will participate in a four-day cook off where the top chefs and bartenders from the Caribbean will present a variety of entrees and cocktails, ranging from innovative to traditional, as they battle for top honors including: Caribbean Culinary Team of the Year, Caribbean Chef of the Year, Caribbean Pastry Chef of the Year, Caribbean Bartender of the Year and Caribbean Junior Chef of the Year. The USVI National Culinary Team is sponsored by: USVI Department of Tourism; The West Indian Club, Ltd.; Innovative; The Ritz-Carlton, St. Thomas; International Capital & Management; Frenchman's Reef Marriott Resort; Taste of St. Croix; and Merchant's Market. The registration fee includes access to all educational sessions, all events on the program including the Awards Dinner and access to the tradeshow. The competition events are not included and are additional including US$40 for Taste of the Islands and US$50 each for the Competition Lunch and Competition Dinner. CHTA is also offering two package options for the competition events: US$85 per person for the Competition Lunch and Competition Dinner or US$110 per person for the Competition Lunch, Competition Dinner and Taste of the Islands festival. CHTA has arranged a group rate of US$139 plus taxes and service charges (run of house, single or double occupancy) per night at the Hyatt Regency Miami.
